A Weird Coincidence

Here’s a weird coincidence: Yesterday, I got a book on Frank Zappa’s gear out of the library. Appropriately enough, it’s called Zappa Gear. This morning, I was reading about one of the reverb units he used in his studio, the Ursa Major Space Station SST-282:

That was probably somewhere between 8:00 and 9:00 AM. I remember thinking something along the lines of, “Hmm, I’m wonder if anyone has made a plugin based on that one.”

And then, at 10:01 AM, I received an email from Plugin Alliance that included the following:

It’s the plugin version of the gear I was wondering about.

Weird, right? What are the odds? I didn’t go online and start looking up information the original piece of gear. I didn’t even say anything about the reverb unit out loud, so it’s not like my smart speaker was spying on me.

It was just a coincidence–and a very specific coincidence to be sure. I wasn’t planning to go to the library, and I wasn’t looking for a book on Frank Zappa’s gear. I just went, and the book caught my eye. Then I skipped ahead to the “Studio and Recording” section of the book and happened to read that specific entry just before receiving an email that referenced the same piece of gear I’d just been reading about.

Life, I suppose, is full of such synchronicities.

Or maybe I’m just that predictable.

  1. That is weird, and to top things off, Pierce of The Press Music Reviews posted about a Frank Zappa album.

    1. I noticed that!

  2. Marc, I always have to remind you about the CHIP in your head, man. I know, it’s romantic and all thinking it’s all “fate-y” and such, but I just had to remind you before you went too far with it this…. 😛

    1. I know, I know! I keep forgetting about that!
