Happy Friday, my friends. As I mentioned yesterday, the new DelCobras EP is out today. I love the energy of it and want to say a few words about my bandmates Jim and Nick: In addition to being a couple of the kindest people I know, they’re also incredibly talented.

Jim is an amazing songwriter and arranger. He knows how to craft a good hook and how to make a song move from verse to chorus and back in a way that makes each moment sound like a fresh new experience. Plus he has a knack for turning my dour, cynical words into a good time. A true miracle worker!

And Nick’s drumming borders on poetry. A drummer’s role in crafting a song is often overlooked, but when the three of us are working on something new, Nick goes far beyond just laying down a beat. He listens to every twist and turn in the song and punctuates the ups and downs with inventive style and precision.

Playing bass in a power pop band is, for my money, the coolest job in the music business. All I have to do is keep the songs chugging along with eighth-notes on the root and occasionally shout something into a microphone. Jim and Nick provide the depth and dimension, and making music with them is nothing but fun.

So here’s the new EP. The Bandcamp edition also includes a very raw rehearsal version of the lead single, “Someday Soon.” It’s what we sound like when it’s just the three of us in a room playing our instruments and singing. Enjoy!
