Freedom Kerl’s name has come up a couple of times on this blog, and for good reason: the guy’s a powerhouse! Whether he’s working on his own music or helping out a fellow musician, Freedom is always up to something — or several somethings. It turns out that he put out a book of lyrics called Some Are Funny and Some Are Profound earlier this month and shortly thereafter released a heartfelt EP in honor of his dad titled Memento Mori.
Also keep an eye out for a collection of “fun/funny songs” called Hit the Nail on the Hand as well as an album called Sham Meow, which is due in early May. And as if that weren’t enough, he’s collaborating with Charlie Angel on what might arguably be described as a tribute to Prince called Purple Kow.
When asked about the project, Freedom had the following to say: “I asked Charlie to collaborate on an album with me. Its a nod to Purple Rain called Purple Kow, and we are writing nine songs together and each song must be directly inspired by the corresponding track on Purple Rain. For example, ‘Attitude (Let’s Get Nuts)’ is our nod to ‘Let’s Go Crazy,’ it has a speech intro and all, plus my brother Josh is gonna add a blistering guitar solo and outro.”
And who knows? Freedom Kerl is a Delco guy, so maybe you’ll find him collaborating with me sometime!

Sounds like Freedom Kerl is a pretty busy guy. Based on what I can see on Spotify, he certainly has released an impressive amount of music over the past 10 years!
And he was playing in bands before that as well, so his oeuvre is quite impressive!
I’m always impressed with artists who are so prolific. When I was still an active hobby musician, I desperately tried to write stuff and managed all of 1.5 songs!
Doing an album of ‘fractured’ songs inspired by Prince’s Purple Rain is a clever idea!
Incredibly so!
