Playhouse Rock!

If you’re going to be in the Philadelphia area on May 31, you might be interested in checking out a show I put together. Playhouse Rock at the Colonial Playhouse in Aldan, Pennsylvania, will feature four acts that I’ve profiled on this blog over the years: Jesse Gimbel, Fataday Korngor, Rescue Pets, and DelCobras.

I suppose I could have called the show “Abominations Fest” or, if I’d put the show on last year, “#Tweetcorechella,” but I wanted to reach out to a broader audience, so I figured “Playhouse Rock” was a fun combination of the “Playhouse” in “Colonial Playhouse” and Schoolhouse Rock.

The hard part was not finding acts to perform at the event. It was actually the opposite: I know so many great bands and solo acts in the Philadelphia area that settling on just four was nearly impossible. In the end, I went with artists I’ve worked with in one way or another over the past few months.

Nick Cervini and I, for example, backed up Samantha Goodman of Rescue Pets for a show back in December, and Sam returned the favor by singing on my song “Hole in the Boat.” Likewise, Fataday Korngor sang on my song “Fake It Till Friday,” and Jesse Gimbel produced the forthcoming second single from DelCobras (the band I’m in with Nick Cervini and Jim Lorino), whose name I’m withholding to build anticipation. (Can you already feel it building?)

Plus, I’ve seen them all perform live, so I know that they all put on excellent shows. So if you’re in the neighborhood or relatively close, come on out on May 31. Doors open at 7:00 and the show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $10 (cash) at the door and $12 (the extra $2 is to cover credit card and processing fees) in advance through the Colonial Playhouse website.

  1. What a cool thing to do, Marc! Are you recording this? Or livestreaming it? I love how you are being incredibly supportive to the indie bands out there!

  2. Oops, well, I guess I should’ve clicked the links before commenting! I see there will be livestreaming.

In the words of Rosanne Rosannadanna: “Never mind.” 😛

    1. No worries! Wait… There will be livestreaming?

      1. Okay, I oversimplified. Here is the quote from the site:

“Look for them on your favorite streaming service or click the links below to listen to their music on Bandcamp.”

Apologies! Doing too many things at once, again….

      2. Ah, I see! Thanks for clarifying!
