Nice essay, Marc. When I started writing my music blog, I decided I would do it first and foremost for myself and the joy I get from combining two things I truly love: Music and writing. How many subscribers and views I would get would be secondary.
For the most part, that’s still my philosophy. What I do value is engaging with fellow bloggers and exchanging thoughts about music. I can’t tell you how many new artists and bands I’ve come across since I started blogging in June 2016, and I largely have my fellow bloggers to thank for it.
Getting back to bloody metrics, to me it’s not about total views or total number of subscribers, but meaningful interaction. I guess the closest metric to that would be comments.
And I, for one, am glad that your blog allowed us to become friends!
